You have probably discovered that life can be a battle—a struggle between the good things you want to do and the bad things that seem to happen to you, automatically.
This can be confusing and frustrating.
But don’t despair, because part of the armor of God is truth. And the truth of God’s Word answers the question, “What is the meaning of life?”
You see…
God Reveals The Meaning of Life To You
Years ago I saw Peter Jennings of ABC News talking about a famous Christian man who had just passed away. He was talking about one of my heroes, the great spiritual thinker Francis Schaeffer, who once said “God is there and he is not silent.”
God is not silent!
God speaks to us through:
1. The ancient Scriptures, the Bible
2. His spirit, given on the day of Pentecost
3. His son, Jesus Christ
In fact, the Bible says…
“The Son of God has come, and has given us an understanding, that we know Him who is true.”
(I John 5:20)
You can understand life.
Jesus Christ reveals God, his spiritual “laws” and the spiritual forces at work in this world—both angels and demons. And, most importantly…
Jesus reveals God’s will for your life.
So, to discover “What is The Meaning of Life,” take a fresh, hard look at the Man from Galilee.
Because Jesus himself is offering you…
Your First Key to Understanding Life
Listen in, as Jesus prays to the Father…
“This is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and him whom you sent, Jesus Christ” (John 17:3).
Did you get that?
Jesus Christ is answering your question!
What is The Meaning of Life? Jesus tells you…
Real living is all about "knowing Him who is true."
Knowing the true God!
You see, Christianity is not a religion. Although well-meaning but misguided men have made a religion out of it. No, Christianity is not a religion.
Christianity is a relationship. A personal relationship with the true God. Based upon God’s revelation of himself!
God has revealed himself to us… through his son, Jesus Christ!
God is there and he is not silent.
God has spoken! That’s why you can understand the meaning of life. God speaks to you in his Word, by his spirit and…
Through his Son, Jesus Christ.
Jesus always speaks God’s words, he always does God’s will. In fact, Christ says, “He who has seen me has seen the Father.” (John 14:9).
So, the first key to understanding the meaning of life is to learn about the true God (there are many false “gods”).
And to discover the true God, his will for your life and the meaning of life…
Just listen to God’s son!
Because Jesus also reveals…
Your Second Key to Understanding Life
You must now realize why God sent Jesus Christ into the world…
“I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly” (John 10:10).
Jesus Christ came not only to help you understand life, but to live life to the max!
God sent Christ so you could live an abundant life! Jesus revealed the truth about God, and this is part of The armor of God that makes us strong believers (Ephesians 6:14). And the truth is, God wants us to live a wonderful life!
The Bible says Jesus repeatedly healed all people of all their diseases (Matthew 4:24; 8:16, etc.).
And Jesus miraculously fed whole crowds of people, supplying all their needs (Matthew 14:19-21, etc.).
What was Jesus doing? Jesus was doing God’s will! And the good news is, that’s God’s will for you, too…today! God says, “I, the Lord, do not change” (Malachi 3:6).
God still wants all people—including you—healed and blessed today! In fact, the Scriptures say “He who didn't spare his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how would he not also with him freely give us all things?"
(Romans 8:32)
God wants to bless your life, even beyond your wildest dreams. And he can. In fact, God says he can do “exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us”
(Ephesians 3:20).
So, What is The Meaning of Life?
Well, so far we have seen that the meaning of life is:
To know the true God, through his son Jesus Christ
To live life abundantly
Hey, that’s pretty exciting news for a searching soul, isn’t it. Because this tells you that…
1. God is knowable and…
2. Abundant life is available
You can know God and understand his will for your life… and you can really begin to live an abundant life with all your needs met…
So, if all of this is true (and it is because it’s God’s Word) …
Then you are probably wondering…
Why You Have Never Understood Life…
You never had a chance, on your own. You see..
You can only understand life if you get The Creator’s perspective. God is the only one who knows who you really are and why you are here! Only God himself can reveal life’s meaning to you.
And God is not silent. God’s Word has always contained the answers to life.
But…
Centuries ago Jesus warned us that Satan would steal God’s Word out of our hearts (Mark 4:15).
And…
The Apostle Paul warned that men would turn away from the truth and turn to myths instead (2 Timothy 4:4).
And, you know what?
They did.
Early church theologians, such as St. Augustine, colored church teachings with the pagan philosophy of their day. For example, the Neo-Platonic idea that God is “unknowable.” These twisted teachings in the Roman Catholic Church eventually ushered in the Dark Ages.
And since then religious leaders have confused God’s people with their denominations, man-made doctrines and unbiblical practices!
Proverbs 18:1 is still true today: men “delight in airing their own opinions.”
Religious leaders are teaching what “they believe” instead of what God actually says in His Word. No wonder Christians today are missing the truth part of The armor of God! And no wonder they are defenseless in spiritual battle.
Christians are still taught that God and his will are “unknowable.” That is, a “mystery.”
Even though the Scriptures say…
“The only begotten son…has declared him”
(John 1:18).
And that is the reason…
